“I’ve always lived a bit outside the real world,” says artist Marc Taylor, when asked to describe his playful street-scene paintings. “Why should a rainy day mean getting cold and wet? he continues. “To me it means getting to have fun and carrying a colorful umbrella!” This simple philosophy, of approaching every day as an adventure, perhaps describes this artist’s appeal. For we too, want to live in his world.
Born and raised in the L.A. area, he focused on art at an early age, influenced by the cinematic magic of Hollywood. “I wanted to live in Mary Poppins’ world,” he says. “I loved how she floated down on her umbrella, then matter-of-factly changed people’s lives for the better. I was compelled by that idea – making the world a better place, by creating art.
His parents were very encouraging, enrolling him in adult painting classes by the age of 9. Marc continued his art education in college, and went on to have a very successful career as an illustrator, creating artwork for magazines, game companies and book publishers.
In his original paintings, he explores a fine line between abstract and realism by using texture and color relationships. His whimsical spirit is evident with the ladies under their umbrellas strolling down streets or garden paths. Marc Taylor’s work is collected worldwide and can be found in top galleries throughout the world.
