She received many Art Awards in High School but decided to pursue a career in Biology, graduating from the University of Guelph in 1980 with an Honors B.Sc. in Wildlife Biology and Management.

Laura has since worked as a research biologist with the Canadian Wildlife Service and as a Naturalist/Interpreter with the National Capital Commission in Ottawa. She also worked with several Toronto area Conservation Authorities and trained as a Volunteer Guide at the Metro Toronto Zoo.

She has been painting professionally for over 30 years and her original watercolors, and prints are sought by private and corporate collectors in many countries, including England, Australia, Germany, Russia, Zambia, Switzerland, and the United States. Two of her Limited Edition Prints have been presented by the Canadian Government to the presidents of Zambia and the Russian Federation, Kenneth Kaunda and Boris Yeltsin. She is kept continuously busy with commissions.
