David Craig first developed his fascination for depicting Canadian history while growing up in Ottawa. Craig’s unique style—exemplified by bold colour combinations—is captured in a series of paintings commemorating Canada’s World War II contribution. Noted for his meticulous attention to detail and accuracy, Craig dedicates as much time to researching his subjects as he does to creating them.
This attention to detail has earned him the respect of a diverse clientele that includes Chatelaine, Readers’ Digest, Molson Brewery and the Canadian Football League. Craig also designed several coins for the Royal Canadian Mint (including the sesquicentennial silver dollar). Publicly celebrated at the prestigious O’Keefe Centre in Toronto, Craig’s work—spanning 15 years and featuring over 200 illustrations—is a testament to his artistic legacy. He is also a recipient of the 2003 James Madison Book Award for First to Fly: How Wilbur and Orville Wright Invented the Airplane.
Craig designed the inner ring of the $300 Premium Gold Coin—Olympic Ideals (2007).
